  • 1/2 pound cauliflower florets Mild and fluffy to balance the dish.
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced Adds essential depth of flavor.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced For aromatic punch.

Main Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil For sautéing the ingredients.
  • 12 ounces smoked sausage, sliced Polish or Andouille varieties add hearty flavor.
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature Binds the ingredients together beautifully.
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise, plain yogurt or sour cream Provides moisture and tanginess.
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese, divided For a gooey topping.
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard Adds a zesty kick.
  • to taste salt and fresh ground black pepper Essential for seasoning.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish. Set it aside for later use.
  • Fill a large pot halfway with water and bring it to a rolling boil. Once boiling, add the broccoli and cauliflower florets. Cook for about 3 minutes, just until tender. Drain well and set aside.
  • While the vegetables are cooking, heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Stir in the diced onions and cook for approximately 2 minutes until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 15 seconds, just until fragrant.
  • Add the smoked sausage to the skillet and cook for 3 minutes or until browned on all sides. Transfer this mixture to the prepared baking dish along with the broccoli and cauliflower.

Mixing

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise (or yogurt/sour cream), 1 cup of the shredded cheese, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  • Gently stir the cream cheese mixture into the vegetable and sausage mixture until well combined. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the top is golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve hot.

Notes

Consider adding smoked paprika for extra flavor or breadcrumbs for a crunchy topping. Feel free to customize with other vegetables or vegetarian sausages.
