Ingredients

For the Stir-Fry

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain The key here is tenderness, ensuring every bite melts in your mouth.
  • 3 cups broccoli florets Bright green and fresh, they pack a nutritional punch.
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (plus more for cooking) Helps achieve that perfect sear on your beef.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Elevates the entire dish with fragrance.
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger Adds a nice spice to the dish.

For the Sauce

  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce Heart of the flavor; low-sodium to keep it balanced.
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional, but authentic) For deeper savory flavors.
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch Thickens the sauce.
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar or honey Adds a touch of sweetness.
  • 2 tbsp water To adjust the sauce consistency.
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional) Adds a luxurious finish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Blanch the broccoli: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the broccoli and cook for 1–2 minutes until it becomes a vibrant, emerald green. Drain it and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process.
  • Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, brown sugar, water, and sesame oil. Set aside.

Cooking

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the sliced beef in a single layer, sear for 1–2 minutes per side until browned. Remove beef and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add a splash more oil if needed, then sauté garlic and ginger for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Return the beef and broccoli to the pan. Pour in the prepared sauce. Toss everything together and stir-fry for an additional 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Serving

  • Serve hot over steamed white rice or noodles. Optionally, sprinkle with sesame seeds or sliced green onions.

Notes

Enjoy with a side of chocolate or green tea ice cream. To keep leftovers, freeze portions and reheat on low heat to maintain texture.
