  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced The star of our dish, releasing a sweet and rich aroma as it caramelizes.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adding a fragrant kick that elevates the dish.
  • 4 cups beef broth A deep, hearty base that binds the flavors together.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce An umami boost that adds complexity.
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme Fragrant and earthy, bringing a touch of warmth.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhancing all the natural flavors of your ingredients.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper For a subtle heat that awakens the taste buds.
  • 8 oz egg noodles Comforting and creamy, the perfect vehicle for our sauce.
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese Melted into gooey perfection, adding richness.
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional) A splash of color, freshening up each bite.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by heating a large skillet over medium heat. Add a drizzle of oil and carefully toss in the beef stew meat. Sear the meat on all sides for 5-7 minutes until browned, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced onion. Allow it to caramelize for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown.
  • Add the minced garlic to the onions and stir for about a minute until fragrant.
  • Return the beef to the skillet and add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer gently, covered, for 30 minutes.
  • While the beef is cooking, prepare the egg noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • Check the beef for tenderness after 30 minutes. If fork-tender, stir in the cooked noodles and top with shredded Swiss cheese. Cover to let the cheese melt.
  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

Consider letting the stew simmer longer for even tastier results. For flavor depth, sear the beef properly and caramelize the onions slowly. Noodles should be added at the end to prevent mushiness.
