Ingredients

For the Cheesecake Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, diced (or frozen, thawed)

For the Sandwich

  • 4 slices thick bread (Challah or brioche works best)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (for extra crunch)

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Use a hand mixer or whisk to blend until smooth and creamy.
  • Gently fold in the diced strawberries, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  • Take two slices of bread and spread a generous amount of the cheesecake filling on one slice. Top with another slice of bread to create a sandwich.
  • Repeat with the remaining slices to make two sandwiches in total.
  • Set up a breading station. In one bowl, place the flour. In a second bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. In a third bowl, add the breadcrumbs.
  • Dredge each sandwich in flour, shaking off the excess. Dip it into the egg mixture, then coat it with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat. To test if the oil is ready, drop in a small piece of bread; it should sizzle immediately.
  • Carefully place the sandwiches in the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Once cooked, remove the sandwiches and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  • Slice the sandwiches diagonally and dust with powdered sugar for an elegant touch.
  • Serve warm, perhaps with a side of fresh strawberries or a drizzle of chocolate sauce.

Notes

If you have leftovers, you can refrigerate them for 1-2 days, or freeze for long-term storage. Reheat in the oven to restore crispiness.
