For the Dumplings

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Forms the base of the dumplings.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large skillet, over medium heat, brown the ground beef until it’s no longer pink.
  • Add the diced onion into the skillet and sauté until soft, about 4 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Mix in the tomato paste, then sprinkle the flour over the mixture.
  • Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  • Add dried thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper, then let it simmer for about 8 to 10 minutes.

Dumpling Preparation

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Mix in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually stir in milk until a soft dough forms.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough onto the simmering beef mixture.

Cooking

  • Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to low; allow the dumplings to steam for 15 minutes.
  • After 15 minutes, check for doneness and let the dumplings sit uncovered for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, sauté onions and garlic to build a strong foundation. Consider garnishing with fresh parsley or chives, or adding red pepper flakes for a kick. For variation, fold in grated cheese into the dumpling mixture.
