Ingredients

For the Cookies

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to a creamy consistency
  • 1 cup granulated sugar adds sweetness
  • 1 large egg for binding
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for flavor
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour for the cookie base
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder for lift
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt enhances sweetness

For the Buttercream

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened for the buttercream
  • 4 cups powdered sugar for frosting
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk to adjust consistency
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for buttercream flavor
  • Food coloring (pink, red, or your choice) for vibrant colors

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually incorporate these dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the cookies.

Baking

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies turn lightly golden.
  • Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.

Buttercream Preparation

  • Beat the softened butter with the powdered sugar, adding milk until you reach the desired consistency.
  • Add the vanilla extract and mix until fluffy and well-combined.
  • Divide the buttercream into small bowls, adding your chosen food coloring to each and mixing until vibrant.
  • Using a piping bag fitted with a petal tip, pipe small roses on top of each cooled cookie.
  • Let the buttercream roses set before serving.

Notes

Chill the cookie dough before rolling it out for cleaner edges. Experiment with different piping techniques for the buttercream roses.
