For the cheese

Preparation

  • Drain the mozzarella balls and pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the extra virgin olive oil, minced garlic, chopped basil, chopped oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, black pepper, and the zest of the lemon. Stir to combine.

Marination

  • Add the drained mozzarella to the marinade mixture, ensuring each ball is well-coated.
  • Cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator for at least two hours, or overnight for best flavor.

Serving

  • Before serving, drizzle the marinated mozzarella with balsamic vinegar if using.
  • Serve chilled or at room temperature, paired with crusty bread or fresh vegetables.

Notes

Marination time can greatly enhance the flavors. Avoid using low-quality olive oil, and ensure the mozzarella is dried properly before marinating.
