Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream the softened unsalted butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the mixture. Beat until smooth.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, blending gently until combined.
  • If dough feels too stiff, add milk one tablespoon at a time until it comes together.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Use cookie cutters to create desired shapes and place them on prepared baking sheets.

Baking

  • Bake for about 8-10 minutes until edges turn lightly golden.
  • Let the cookies cool on a wire rack.

Decoration

  • Once cooled, decorate the cookies with white royal icing for the lilies and green for the leaves.
  • Allow the icing to set before serving or gifting.

Notes

Always measure flour properly and let butter soften for easy creaming. Chill the dough if rolling out, to maintain cookie shape. Avoid overworking the dough to prevent tough cookies.
