  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract and orange zest.
  • Alternately add the dry ingredients with orange juice and buttermilk, mixing until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting

  • Beat the softened butter until smooth, then gradually incorporate powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and orange juice.
  • Mix until silky and fluffy, adding optional food coloring if desired.

Assembly and Decoration
