Instructions

Baking the cake

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • Combine red velvet cake mix, vegetable oil, eggs, water, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Mix until smooth.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan, then transfer it to a wire rack and cut into one-inch cubes.

Preparing the whipped cream and cream cheese mixture

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  • In another bowl, blend cream cheese, sugar, sour cream, and milk until smooth. Gently fold in the whipped cream.

Assembling the trifle

  • In a large trifle dish, layer cake cubes followed by cream cheese mixture. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  • Finish with a layer of cream cheese mixture and top with chocolate chips and fresh berries.
  • Refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours or overnight before serving.

Notes

Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting to prevent crumbling. Whip cream to soft peaks to avoid deflation. Layer carefully for visual appeal.
