  • 1.5 cups boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons Better Than Bouillon Chicken Base
  • 1 large onion, chopped for sweetness and depth
  • 16 oz. baby carrots, sliced chunky for texture
  • 4 ribs celery, sliced at an angle for a pop of color
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed or finely chopped for that aromatic touch
  • 0.75 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper for added flavor
  • 3 sprigs fresh thyme offering a delightful herbal note
  • 1 tablespoon butter for richness
  • 4-5 cups leftover roast turkey, pulled into hearty bite-sized pieces

For the Dumplings

  • 1 cup flour for dumpling foundations
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder ensuring those dumplings rise
  • 0.5 teaspoon sugar to balance flavors
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt for seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper adjusting for taste
  • 0.25 teaspoon dried parsley lending a fresh herbal finish
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground rosemary for a warming essence
  • 0.125 teaspoon poultry seasoning bringing all the flavors together
  • 0.0625 teaspoon onion powder enhancing the savory notes
  • 1.5 tablespoons cold butter, cubed small for the dumplings
  • 0.5 cup cold milk offering moisture to the dumplings

For Thickening the Stew

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch for thickening the stew
  • 2 tablespoons cold milk for thickening
  • 0.125 teaspoon regular table salt optional for adjusting seasoning to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather a large stock pot and introduce the chicken broth and turkey stock. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
  • In a separate microwave-safe container, heat the water until boiling along with the chicken base, stirring until fully dissolved.
  • Pour this boiling mixture into the pot, allowing the rich flavors to meld together.
  • Carefully add the remaining soup ingredients, except for the turkey and dumpling ingredients. Let the mixture boil over medium heat for about 10 minutes or until the veggies have softened.

Dumpling Preparation

  • Whisk together the dry ingredients needed for the dumplings in a bowl.
  • Incorporate small pieces of cold butter into the flour mixture until it reaches a crumbly texture.
  • Then add milk until the mixture is slightly moist, forming your dumpling batter.

Cooking

  • Drop dollops of the dumpling batter into the boiling broth without peeking, then quickly cover the pot.
  • Allow it to low boil for 15 minutes.
  • Gently fold in the hearty pieces of turkey, letting them warm through in the stew.
  • Mix cornstarch with a couple of tablespoons of cold milk and drizzle this into the simmering concoction, stirring gently.
  • Taste your stew and adjust the salt if necessary.
  • Serve it piping hot, ideally in large, warming bowls.

Notes

To brighten up flavors, add a splash of lemon juice just before serving. For heat, include a pinch of red pepper flakes. Optional extra veggies or different herbs can enhance the stew's heartiness. Avoid peeking during dumpling cooking to ensure fluffiness.
