Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6 ears ears of corn, husked and halved Bursting with juicy flavors.
  • 2 cups whole milk Gives the dish a creamy texture.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed For rich, velvety goodness.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Providing a hint of sweetness.
  • 3 cloves garlic, halved Adding a fragrant earthiness.
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives Lending vibrant color and a mild oniony taste.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large stockpot or Dutch oven, combine 4 cups of water, halved garlic cloves, 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, and 1 1/2 teaspoons of black pepper. Set over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes to infuse garlic flavor into the water.

Cooking

  • Stir in the whole milk, cubed butter, and brown sugar, watching as the butter melts into the warm mixture, creating a luscious sauce.
  • When the sauce returns to a boil, carefully add the halved corn ears. Reduce the heat and simmer until the corn is just tender, which should take about 10 minutes.
  • Serve hot, garnished with freshly chopped chives.

Notes

For a smoky flavor, grill the corn before adding it to the broth. Substitute half-and-half for the whole milk for a richer sauce. Experiment with herbs like fresh thyme or dill to elevate flavor profiles.
