Triple Chocolate Mousse Torte

Ingredients
  

For the mousse

  • 1.5 cups dark chocolate, chopped Chopped into small pieces
  • 1.5 cups milk chocolate, chopped Chopped into small pieces
  • 1 cup white chocolate, chopped Chopped into small pieces
  • 2 cups heavy cream Divided into two portions
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar For sweetness
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract Aromatic flavoring
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt To enhance flavors

For the chocolate cake

  • 1 package chocolate cake mix Shortcut option or homemade from scratch
  • 3 large eggs For the cake
  • 0.5 cups water For the cake
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil For the cake
  • 0.5 cups sour cream For moisture in the cake

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package instructions, then pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes. Check with a toothpick; it should come out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely on a wire rack.

Mousse Preparation

  • In separate bowls, place the chopped dark, milk, and white chocolate.
  • Heat 1/2 cup of heavy cream in a saucepan over low heat until hot but not boiling.
  • Pour the hot cream over each chocolate mixture and let sit for 1 minute.
  • Stir each mixture gently until smooth, then add vanilla and salt. Let them cool slightly.
  • In another bowl, whip the remaining 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  • Gently fold the whipped cream into each chocolate mixture.

Assembly

  • Slice the cooled cake horizontally to create two layers.
  • Place the bottom layer on a serving platter and spread the dark chocolate mousse over it.
  • Add the second layer of the cake and spread the milk chocolate mousse across the top.
  • Finish by spreading the white chocolate mousse over the top of the torte.
  • Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving.
  • Before serving, add chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder as desired.

Notes

To maintain optimal fluffiness, ensure chocolate mixtures are cool before folding in whipped cream. Can use coconut cream or Greek yogurt as a lighter alternative.
