Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a medium skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and sauté them until they are golden and caramelized, about 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Shape the ground beef into two large patties. Season generously with salt and pepper.

Cooking

  • Heat another skillet or grill over medium-high heat.
  • Cook the patties for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until they reach your desired doneness.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper to create the secret sauce.

Assembly

  • Butter one side of each rye bread slice.
  • In the skillet, place the bread slices butter-side-down.
  • On the unbuttered side of each slice, spread a generous amount of the secret sauce.
  • Layer a slice of Swiss cheese, add a cooked patty, followed by the caramelized onions, and top with another slice of Swiss cheese.
  • Place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side up.
  • Grill the sandwich for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until golden-brown and crispy with melted cheese.
