Ingredients
  

For the Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's softened for easier mixing.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 piece egg Large egg preferred.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Sifted if desired.
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt Can reduce if using salted butter.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until just combined to form a thick dough.
  • Divide the dough in half and roll out one portion to about 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  • Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Let cookies cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Decoration

  • Decorate as desired once completely cooled with frosting, sprinkles, or festive decorations.

Notes

For a twist, add a pinch of almond extract or colored sprinkles to the dough. Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness. If you want softer cookies, underbake slightly.
